Last night, December 18, 2024, the sailing community gathered at PIER 165 on Thonetlaan in Antwerp for an engaging evening organized by STAB (Sail Training International Belgium). The event was dedicated to The Tall Ships Races 2025, featuring inspiring presentations and unique travel stories.
Highlights of the Evening:
- Paul Van Den Heuvel, chairman of STAB and captain of OP STOK 3, gave an extensive presentation about the race route and the Belgian participants: T/S Rupel, T/S Saeftinghe, T/S Williwaw, and OP STOK 3. He also shed light on STAB's role within Sail Training International.
- Adventurous travel stories: Pieter shared his experiences aboard T/S Williwaw during the Tall Ships Races 2024, complemented by a video message from an enthusiastic Dutch crew member. Hanne Peeters (T/S Rupel) and Seppe Paelman (T/S Saeftinghe) also offered personal insights into their journeys.
- Unique visuals: A captivating film by Celeste, Cyriel, and Hubert Rubbens about their adventure aboard T/S Rupel was screened. Missed the film?

- A well-deserved honor: Jan Vandenborne, our captain and chairman of vzw Rupel, received the prestigious STI Lifetime Award 2024. Congratulations, Jan! 🎉
- Presentations with purpose: Tom Roose and Ruben Celis (Antwerp Maritime Academy) presented their "Sailtraining for Students" project. Jonas Willems also gave an engaging talk about the STI Youth Council. followed by a preview of 2025 plans by Mike Celis, captain of T/S Saeftinghe.
The evening not only brought inspiration but also excitement for what lies ahead in 2025. Together, we are building a future filled with adventure, training, and unforgettable experiences at sea.
